Board of Review

2024 Rules of Government - Includes meeting dates, deadlines, and other details for citizens.

Illinois counties, with the exception of Cook County, have a local appeal body known as the Board of Review. Complaints on assessments must be filed in writing with the Board of Review in the county in which the property is located. In counties with populations less than 150,000, complaints must be filed by August 12th. This date may be extended if the Supervisor of Assessments has not met the required publishing dates. The Board of Review publishes rules regarding appeals. Check with the Board of Review office for the rules in your county.

Appeal Reasons, Evidence and Process

The Board of Review office will supply you with a complaint form. In Adams County, the Board of Review will review your written complaint, and notify you of their tentative decision. You may request a hearing after you have received your written decision. You may represent yourself or have an attorney represent you.

It is important to remember that you are appealing the assessment of your property upon which the actual bill will be based. The Board of Review does not have the authority to change a tax bill.

A list of all assessment changes will be published in a newspaper in the county after the Board adjourns.

The Adams County Board of Review generally meets July 10th through October 7th, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am in the Board of Review conference room, unless there is no business to conduct for that day.

Members

John Johnson, Ron Gaus, and Linda Snider.

Meetings

The Board of Review meets in the Adams County Courthouse, 507 Vermont St, Quincy, IL.
