Witness' Rights

Your rights as a Witness under the amended Bill of Rights for Victims and Witnesses include the following:

  1. Notification of all Court proceedings at which your presence is required and notification of cancellations of scheduled Court proceedings.

  2. Contact with your employer to help assure his/her cooperation with you in your Court appearances.

  3. To be provided a safe waiting area during Court proceedings.

  4. To be provided with a translator (if necessary).

Responsibilities of Witnesses according to the new law are:

  1. To report violent crimes immediately.

  2. To cooperate with law enforcement authorities throughout the investigation, prosecution, and trial.

  3. To testify at the trial.

  4. To notify law enforcement authorities of any change of address.
