 What is it?

When someone illegally uses your property for financial gain.

How does it happen?

Someone records a fraudulent document in the County Land Records office, making it look like they own your home or property.

What can I do about it?

Your County Recorder’s Office has teamed up to create a notification service called Property Fraud Alert. Subscribe free of charge:

Property Fraud Alert

For further details contact the Adams County Clerk/Recorder’s Office at (217) 277-2150.

How will I be alerted?

You will receive an e-mail alert indicating that a document was recorded that matches the criteria you have provided, such as Doe, John. The alert will provide you the document number, the type of document (i.e. Quit Claim Deed, Warranty Deed, Lien, Satisfaction of Mortgage, etc.), the date and time the document was recorded, and the name the system matched.

In addition, you will be provided with information on tips you can take if you believe the document was filed illegally.
