VACAC – United States Department of Veterans Affairs Affiliated Veteran Service Officer (VSO),  

DEPARTMENT 
Veterans Assistance Commission of Adams County (VACAC) 

REPORTS TO 
VACAC Superintendent  

CLASSIFICATION/ PAY RANGE 
Exempt – $45,000.00, Negotiable, plus benefits

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 
Full Time, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. as needed or by appointment 

TRAVEL 
Some overnight travel is expected for this position. There will be occasional local day travel

SUMMARY 
Provides VSO representation and assistance for client with the US department of Veterans Affairs. Evaluates clients for potential direct financial, advocacy and case management assistance.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Answer telephone, screen and direct calls, update schedules and take messages. As needed 
  • Complete VA VSO Accreditation as soon as particle. Provided by the VACAC, must pass a background check 
  • Assist qualified clients with assistance and claim request at the Local, State and Federal Level 
  • File Paperwork with proper agencies, as needed 
  • Train and learn interoffice programs and processes 
  • Complete required training as directed by VACAC Superintendent< HIPPA, Mental Health, USVA and VA CEU’s 
  • Completes initial Intake forms as directed.  
  • Work as a team for our clients and the VACAC itself 
  • Provide exceptional client/Veteran services with confidentiality, accuracy, respect, dignity and compassion.  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  
A background and education in counseling, social work, Veterans Service Officer, Veterans Affairs, psychology or other Human Services is suggested. A High School Diploma is the minimum educational requirement. A combination of experience and/or education may be considered.  This position will require the successful applicant to be an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Armed Forces. Proof of service and discharge character will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk; or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and is in a normal office setting.
